As the Technology Category Specialist - Software, you will lead strategic sourcing initiatives of high complexity for goods and services purchased by the company. Develop, implement and maintain proactive strategies for assigned categories. The position negotiates work scopes and pricing with vendors and develops contracts using established protocols as defined by the company. Engages all levels of the organization, including senior staff, to develop and execute sourcing strategies. Serves as subject matter resource and formally or informally mentors other Technology Category Specialist. 

In February of 2019 CenterPoint Energy completed an acquisition which added nearly 7,000 employees. Now you’ll have the opportunity to work with a dynamic procurement team to support our $27 billion-dollar company which has a footprint in 40 states.  

Specifically, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Assume responsibility for large, complex negotiations (preferably with vendors such as SAP, Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, VMWare, ServiceNow, SalesForce, and others).
  • Achieve bottom-line savings for year-over-year sustainable cost reductions.
  • Drive value through their understanding market dynamics; understand the software industry; and the nuances of acquiring software.
  • Develop sourcing strategies with clearly defined and fully documented negotiation path.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and internal business partners.
  • Multi-task quickly from one acquisition project to another

Basic Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience required in strategic sourcing with responsibilities for large, complex negotiations with vendors and a proven record of achieving bottom-line savings for year-overyear sustainable cost reduction
  • Experience managing the software technology category, including all types of software acquisitions, e.g., Application, System, Infrastructure, and Cloud software


  • CTPE, CPSM, CPM, PMP certifications
  • Experience working with vendors such as SAP, Oracle, IBM, Microsoft, VMWare, ServiceNow, SalesForce.
